As a young child one of my favourite outings with my granda was to go to collect my granny when she worked in Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast.

No doubt the handfuls of sweets my granny’s friends who worked alongside her in the canteen gave me played a role but back then we were able to drive right into the heart of the yard, underneath the famous yellow cranes that dominate the Belfast skyline in the east, often as they were moving.

Since then, the place has always held a special fascination for me, as it does for many who grew up in Belfast.
